Dining Table Revamp.

wencrafting table revamp (7)

My dining table has given us a lot of good years but it was starting to show the wear and tear of our family. Cup ring marks, colouring oops that had left the page, shadow writing where the heavy writer had left indents on the table and the general knocks and scratches. So I felt it was time for a revamp and after I had seen a Pin of a table with stenciling on it I wanted it give my table a bit more character.

So this is what I did.

To start with I sanded back the top and gave the base and legs a light sand. I changed the stain to a deeper Indain Tea and gave it two coats. The base and legs got a primer coat and two top coats of a leftover cream paint my husband had from a job. It is  great to have a handyman around, all the calls I made to him while standing in Bunnings was helpful as I had no idea what to get.

Next was the design, I really liked a pattern I found online so I printed it out to make a rough stencil. I wanted the pattern to be uniformed and have a hand painted feeling at the same time. So to get that I marked out the stencil with chalk as it is easy to wipe off and then hand painted the pattern in. I finished the design off with a thin line on the inside. All the design was done in the same cream as the base and legs. I love that the lines are a little crooked and the pattern is different thickness, it gave me the hand painted feeling I wanted.

With some coats of vanish to finish it off my family were happy to get the dining table back after it’s 5 days in time out.  Next is the chairs and I’m thinking these may take me a while. Looks like we are standing to eat.

Wonder Woman Shoes

wencrafting wonderwoman (2)

A while ago my Little Miss had a Super Hero dress up day at Day Care. I was trying to think of a girl super hero of recent times and for the life of me I couldn’t. I am sure there is one but with one night to have an outfit ready, time wasn’t on my side. So the next best thing was to go with my favourite girl super hero,Wonder Woman.

This idea was really easy to do as my coffee cups in the house are Wonder Woman, so with a coffee cup in hand I start to create. The skirt was first with some blue tulle and gluing some white felt star on. Some more felt for the head and arm bands, we dug out a cape from the dress up box and it was all coming together nicely. With one of Ed’s old red shirts I painted the wonder woman symbol on and lastly the shoes…

This is what I enjoyed doing the most, the shoes. After finishing late in to the night I gave them a spray with a clear canvas varnish the next morning and she was all ready to go.

I like them so much I am thinking of making myself a pair.

Bunch of weeds

I think every Mum gets those lovely bunches of flowers that are really weeds and that big smile to go with it.

wencrafting bunch of weeds (4)

The next comment from my little one is “put it in water Mum”. The problem with most the weeds/flowers I receive are that they have very short stems. I found these little milk bottles are a great size to hold them.

Weeds seem to have a very short life and fade as the day goes on. My weeds get a added pretty boost with this cover so once they start wilting the vase still looks pretty.

Once the flowers have gone it is easy to remove the cover as it has an elastic top. Wash the bottle and then slip the cover back on. Now ready for the next lot of flowers.

Christmas Decorations

Wen Crafting christmas decoration (5)

We have a tradition of putting up the Christmas tree on the 1st of December. I’m not sure why  the tradition started but it has been this way since my husband on I got together 16 years ago.

In the start it was really me putting up the tree while Aaron commented on placement from the lounge, which worked of me and my need to have it certain way. Then once Jackson come along Aaron became more hands on. I found myself sitting back watching Jack and him set up the tree reminding myself I could rearrange it later. Now this year I feel it is going to be Mummy and Daddy referring our two little gems put our tree. It will be so much fun, I hope our little tree survives the event.

I started on the decorations and now looking forward to the December 1st fun.

Summer Dining

wen crafting food covers (8)

I love Summer time for the outside dining. Sitting out the back in the afternoon watching the sunset is a great time of day and ending it with dinner outside completes the summer life for us. But the one thing that freaks me out are flies on the food. Now hubby said my idea of completely fly screening the outdoor area will lose the outside effect. He may have a point but I am not telling him that, so the next best thing for me is food covers.

These lovely food covers are also a great way to brighten up the table. wen crafting food covers (1) wen crafting food covers (2)

Crochet Time

wen crafting clock (1)

I have just finished these clocks and it has been fun having a play around with crocheting doilies. I have never crochet a doily before and knew I needed to end up with 12 points on the outside ring, so I started my search for a pattern. Sadly I was unable to find what I was looking for as all the designs seem to have 8 or 10 points on the outside, so it looked like I was going to be making it up as I go along. This is always what I enjoy the most, crocheting without a pattern. The one down side to this is that I don’t make notes as I am going and seem to be only able to make kind of the same items never identical.

Adding the doilies to fabric, placing them in the wooden hoops and inserting the clock bits it all seem to come together nicely. Now they are sitting in my craft room ready for the next markets.

I now have no excuse for being late as there is clocks everywhere.

Wine Time

Wen Crafting Wine Time (3)

A while ago my sister had her Stampin’ Up! catalogue launch “Spring time in Paris” and she asked me to make up some Wine Cup Cozies to give out to her guest as little thank you gifts. To go along with the cup cozies I made some matching Wine bag and cup cozies sets for her decorations. I was really happy how they turned out.

  Wen Crafting Wine Time (2)

The one size cup cozies fits on different size wine cups with an elastic band at the top and buttons at the bottom.

The wine bags are really handy with big handles and can stretch to fit many size wine bottles which makes it easy to carry to parties. I find putting my wine in the fridge with the bag still on helps to see my bottle when it’s time to refill my glass or sending hubby to refill my glass.

Starched Fabric Wall Art

wen crafting strached fabric wall art (1)

I was looking forward to setting up my daughters room once we moved back into our own home. Knowing that I could paint walls, put in nails to hang picture was a little bit of a rush after renting for 2 years when we were away. I set about picking a theme that would suit her and I liked the idea of lots of colours and butterflies all around her walls. I have seen wall decals of flying butterflies in black and pinks but I wanted more colour in her room and the pricing had me wondering if it was worth it. I could paint them on but knew I would be changing her room to a new theme as she got older so what I did needed to be removed easily. The solution to all my crafting blocks is Pinterest, I honestly don’t know what I did before this. I found some ladies putting fabric on the wall by ironing it on. This was not such a good idea as ironing and me don’t go well together and adding a painted wall would not end well. I found some pins that used starch to stick the fabric to the wall and after some tries, fails and changes to the recipes I finally got it right and very happy with the results.

They start from the power point and go up to the top of the wall and split to go in both directions around the room meeting over her name.

I added some circles to the wall above her dresses and after they had set I hot glued some buttons to spell out her name.

Cactus Pincushions

I was really surprised how well these little guys sold at my last market and they were made at the last minute just to see if I could sell one. All bar one found a home that weekend, with people studying them before picking one they felt was smiling just right. They all seemed to have turned out a little different from each other, even with one looking a little grumpy. WencraftingCactus guy

Beside my chair I have this really handy magazine stand that is at a great level of my drink when I’m crocheting, it also stores my spare crochet needle, scissors, needles and stuff. Now the needles were stuck in a blob of blue-tac which was not so handy, that is why I made myself a little cactus guy. I loved him so it was good to see others loved them and worth the few late nights to finish them it time.

I have made a new batch of guys for my next markets and had lined them up as I finished them. I asked my son what he though and it was pointed out to me that not all the eyes were the same (My son never seems to understand how to answer these questions with the needed “they’re great mum” answer, but I will keep training him). So to fix this I made some glasses for the guys with the eye problems.

Just with some wire and my tongue stuck at the right angle I made these.

Now all done and ready to go.

Shoe Fun

IMG_0766

It is a fact that my daughter has a large amount of shoes. So there was no surprise that for her     birthday I would get her some new ones. With her birthday theme of Peppa Pig this year I set about painting her a pair of shoes as I was unable to find any shoes with Peppa on them.

   IMG_0762

Ed’s loved her shoes and after a while gave up watching her feet and pointing out Peppa or George with each step she took. Yes there were some injuries with this.

After seeing his sisters shoes and declaring that they turned out pretty good(a big complement from my son), Jack had decided he wanted a pair. Jack is a little Minecrafted mad so it was not surprise that that was the theme he wanted.

  IMG_0753

By now I was feeling pretty confident that they were turning out OK as my son is a straight talker and readily tells me “ that doesn’t look that good Mum” and these seem to have passed the test.

My nephew’s birthday was coming up so I challenged myself to try a pair of Adventure time for him. Now the biggest challenge was working out who the characters were.

  IMG_0757 IMG_0756

I will now admit that the show is the weirdest thing every and I am still unable to get any of the names straight.

Thinking this was it as all the kids now had a pair I was surprised when handed a pair of shoes from my niece asking for a painted pair also. Looks like teenagers would wear them also.

So from ones side it looks like she is a Elmo fan and from the other side a Cookie Monster fan.
